Towards the end of the day yesterday work requested that I be at our main office in the morning. Our main office is about 30 miles from home. StudPuppy had an obligation to put new brakes on my car, and he also needed to get Kate to and from school. I texted HotPink Valentine and Buffy Vanderschmidt and asked if I could ride with them in the morning. Buffy responds, “sure we leave at 6:15…” Buffy is well aware that morning is my mortal enemy. 
I need to get to work, so I make the necessary arrangements, (convince StudPuppy to drive me to HotPink’s house pre-6am).
To my surprise the morning goes off without a hitch. At least, until it was time to wake Kate up. She was furious! StudPuppy wakes her up, takes her downstairs, and gives her clothes to put on. I am running around finishing up my getting ready for work. I walk out of my room, and Kate and Ziggy (the dog) are back in her bed.
Me: Kate?
Kate: IT’S STILL DARK OUT!!!
Me: I know. You have to get up and get dressed though.
Kate: Where are we going.
Me: You dad has to take me to my friends so I can go to work.
Kate: Well, why do I have to go?
Me: Because you’re 4. You can’t stay home alone.
Kate: Davide is here.
Me: A 12 yr old can’t babysit a 4 yr old.
Kate: IT IS STILL NIGHT!
Me: I know. You can sleep in the car. I will get you a little blanket.
Kate: Not a baby blanket. I AM NOT SLEEPING IN THE CAR! … long pause… It’s too cold out. I can’t go.
Me: Please just go downstairs and get dressed.
….later just after getting in the car…
Studpuppy: Which way should I go?
Me: To HotPink Valentine’s
Studpuppy: I know which way?
(he has driven there at least 4 times by now, he should know how to get there)
Me: (frustrated) Just head towards the pizza shop.
StudPuppy: Last night you said to go the other way.
Me: Last night I was not thinking about the fact that it is 6 in the morning, there is not going to be a lot of traffic.
Kate: IT’S DARK OUT!!!
Me: It can be dark and the morning at the same time.
Kate: No it can’t! You’re lying.
(God forbid I tell this kid about winters in Alaska)Me: It’s morning Kate. The sun will come up soon.
Kate: Oh. (I don’t think she was convinced, it was more of a let the crazy lady win, “oh”.)
